Dow Jones deal most important acquisition for News Corp.

News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch gave an interview to The Australian newspaper in which he called the acquisition of Dow Jones & Co., the parent of The Wall Street Journal, the most important deal the company has ever done.

John Durie wrote, “‘The first job would be to improve the paper (The Wall Street Journal) in America and its online site WSJ.Com to broaden its coverage,’ he said.

“Then the focus would be on Europe to boost its coverage of local and international news.

“The US print editions would be lifted in size by 15 to 20 per cent and the weekend editions eventually by 100 per cent, he said, depending on advertising support.

“Asked about any long-term plans to bring The Asian Wall Street Journal to Australia, he said: ‘I’d hope we could continue to improve the financial section of The Australian to the point where that is not necessary.'”
