After spending nearly six years as lead editor, reviews at Digital Trends, Matthew S Smith is leaving the company to go freelance.
During his time as editor, Smith supervised reviews, set editorial standards and checked copy for consistency with style guidelines. He also supervised mobile, computing, gaming, home, and home theater, each of which is staffed by its own section editor, as well as staff writers and freelancers.
Smith has been with Digital Trends for more than 9 years now, joining in 2011 as a freelance contributor.
He was also a contributor, rewards editor at MakeUseOf.com, where he sought out companies to participate in MakeUseOf Rewards, an initiative that provided free software to loyal fans. He also managed relations with companies once they became a part of the program and helped execute the delivery of the initiative by writing posts amongst other tasks.
Smith has also worked freelance previously, with his work appearing in Digital Trends, PC Magazine, TechHive, The Escapist, Consumer’s Digest, MakeUseOf, PC Perspective, and GamesRadar.
He was also a contributing editor at Consumers Digest Communications LLC.
Smith is a graduate of Beloit College.
