Financial Times editor Lionel Barber sent out the following on Thursday morning:
Martin Dickson will be retiring from the FT this summer after a distinguished 37-year writing and editing career.
Martin is one of our most respected journalists and managers. As Deputy Editor from 2005 to 2012, he played an indispensable role in the transformation of the FT into a digital first news organisation with an increasing global presence.
As US Managing Editor over the last two years, Martin has led our American editorial operation from New York with a deft authority, strengthening our reputation in a highly competitive market.
Martin will leave New York on June 30 and will be returning to the UK. He will be succeeded as US Managing Editor by Gillian Tett, who will take over formally on September 1. I am delighted to welcome back Gillian in her US role.
Gary Silverman, The Deputy US Managing Editor, will assume responsibility for the US editorial team between Martin’s departure and Gillian’s formal takeover.
