Detroit paper adding standalone biz section

The Detroit Free-Press will add a standalone business section to the paper during three days of the week.

The standalone business section will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Tuesday section will include a an “enhanced” markets report, writes editor Pat Anger in Sunday’s paper.

After cutting standalone business sections in 2007 and 2008, daily newspapers appear to be bringing them back as the economy improves. Earlier this year, the San Jose Mercury News brought back its standalone section, for example.

Other newspapers that have added standalone business sections after cutting include the Orange County Register and Chicago Tribune.
