Detroit News hires Laing to cover auto regulation

Keith Laing, a reporter for The Hill, joined The Detroit News on Monday as a reporter in its Washington bureau covering automotive regulation and other assignments.

Laing covered transportation policy in Congress for The Hill newspaper, where he managed the paper’s Transportation Report blog. Laing has also worked for the News Service of Florida, where he tracked the Florida state legislature with a focus on transportation and energy issues.

Laing worked previously in the Georgia Senate Press Office and served as a local government reporter for The Brunswick News, a daily newspaper published off the coast of southeast Georgia. Additionally, he has frequently contributed to Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine.

Laing is an alumnus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in print journalism with a minor in business administration in 2005. Keith also holds a Master of Arts degree in political science, with a specialization in American politics, from Georgia State University in Atlanta. He is a native of Stone Mountain, Ga.

Laing is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
