Jonathan Higuera, a veteran business reporter for The Arizona Republic, has been named deputy director of the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
The position is new to the organization.
Higuera is the president of the Arizona Latino Media Association and former vice president-print of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. He is also a member of the Reynolds Center’s Circle of Achievement.
“Jonathan brings a broad background working both in business journalism and with organizations dedicated to improving the quality of journalism,” said Andrew Leckey, director of the Reynolds Center. “His duties will include managing some of the center’s key programs, writing for our BusinessJournalism.org Web site and representing the center at training workshops.”
Higuera’s career has included business reporting for The Arizona Daily Star and Tucson Citizen. He also held editing positions in Washington, D.C., for the Hispanic Link Weekly Report and the Foundation News & Commentary. He holds a B.A. in journalism from the Cronkite School at Arizona State University and an M.S. in Mexican-American Studies from the University of Arizona.
