Deadline Hollywood executive editor David Lieberman is leaving the entertainment industry news website to become a professor.

Lieberman is leaving Deadline on Sept. 22 to become an associate professor in the graduate media management program at The New School.

“It’s been an exhilarating ride in the 6 1/2 years since I moved from USA Today,” said Lieberman in a LinkedIn post. “This will give me a chance to teach, which I’ve always enjoyed. And I’ll continue to write about the media business in different venues.”

Lieberman covered the media business for USA Today from 1993 to 2011.

Prior to joining USA Today, Lieberman was media and entertainment editor for BusinessWeek, economics reporter for The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, reporter and editor at TV Guide, editorial writer for The Hartford Courant, and reporter for The Hartford Advocate. He has been an adjunct professor at the Fordham University Graduate School of Business.

He spent the 2003-2004 academic year as a fellow with Columbia University’s Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism
