De Kretser named ME of Reuters.com

Dan Colarusso, executive editor of Reuters Digital, sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

I’m pleased to announce that Leela de Kretser will be joining us as the new Managing Editor of Reuters.com.

Leela’s experience is as varied as it is impressive, most notably serving as the editorial director and publisher of DNAinfo. She led the startup to extraordinary growth, built an impressive staff of journalists and made the site a serious player covering New York.

She’s also had stints at The New York Post, the Herald Sun in Australia, Newser.com, Business Daily, and was an adjunct professor at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. She also worked with Michael Wolff on his biography of Rupert Murdoch.

Most recently, Leela has been running her own media consulting firm with clients ranging from traditional publishers to start-ups and major tech companies. She lives in New York with her son Janon, who just last week played in the first of what’s sure to be many Little League All-Star games.

As Managing Editor, Leela will oversee the day-to-day editorial operations for the site and work closely with me to develop strategies around better showcasing Reuters journalism, focusing on mobile users and growing the overall audience and influence of our consumer experience. Her first day will be August 24.

Please join me in welcoming Leela to the team.
