Daytona Beach paper cuts stock listings

The Daytona Beach News-Journal newspaper in Florida will no longer print stock listings during the week, according to a short story Monday.

The story stated, “This week, The Daytona Beach News-Journal’s print edition will stop publishing daily stock listings Tuesday through Friday. Weekly market summaries covering mutual funds and the 2,100 most active stocks will be published on Saturdays. In addition the Web site soon will offer a new package of interactive financial tools and market information.

“The News-Journal joins many other newspapers that have cut stock listings to reduce newsprint costs. Research indicates more and more readers use the Internet to monitor investments.

“The new online tools will provide information that many investors will find more helpful than the old listings. Features to be added soon to the Web site include investment tools, additional breaking financial news and individual portfolio information. Users also will be able to create personal portfolios online and make customized stock searches.”
