Politico managing editor Sudeep Reddy sent out the following on Tuesday:

We’re thrilled to announce that Kate Davidson, a skilled journalist who has dominated economics and finance beats in Washington for the past dozen years, is returning to POLITICO.

Kate, who just wrapped up nearly seven years at The Wall Street Journal, will be the first step in an exciting expansion of Morning Money to bring more scoops and original insight to a key POLITICO franchise. Ben White launched Morning Money in 2009 – just in time for epic Washington debates about the budget, debt ceiling and inflation – and set the standard for newsletters in this domain. You’ll continue to see Ben in Morning Money in the coming months, along with other newsletters including The Nightly and The Long Game.  Stay tuned for more about how we plan to expand our Morning Money ambitions alongside Kate, Ben, Aubree Weaver – who has kept our newsletter readers informed with her valuable roundups of key news – and our larger cast of stellar economics and finance journalists.

Kate is particularly well suited for this role. She has skillfully covered every major story line in economic policy, monetary policy and financial regulation over the past 13 years in Washington – a period of sweeping change in the policy landscape for Washington and Wall Street. Most recently at the Journal, she covered the Biden administration’s economic agenda, the Treasury Department and U.S. fiscal policy. She previously covered the Federal Reserve, breaking numerous stories about central bank independence and accountability.  She’s also written extensively about the broader economy including major trends that concern Washington around jobs, growth and inflation.

Before joining the Journal, Kate was a key member of our Financial Services team covering every major financial regulator, including the launch of the CFPB, and implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act. She previously worked for the American Banker and CQ-Roll Call.  Before moving to Washington, Kate covered politics and business at the Concord Monitor and education at the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Kate lives in Northwest Washington with her husband, son and daughter. When she’s not nerding out over budget projections, she’s usually bingeing Netflix period dramas, camping around the DMV with her family, cheering on the Nats and her beloved Red Sox or (her latest pandemic endeavor) attempting to learn Italian.

From her time at POLITICO and her tours through other newsrooms, Kate has always been known as a sharp reporter, a collaborative colleague and an all-around generous person. She’ll start on Oct. 19, reporting to Mark McQuillan and delivering journalism across all of our platforms.

Please join us in congratulating Kate on her new role and welcoming her back to the POLITICO newsroom.
