Barstow leaves NY Times, headed To UC Berkeley

Reporter David Barstow has apparently left The New York Times after a fallout with the publication’s investigative team.

Barstow has won a record four Pulitzer prizes during his career, and has worked with The Times since 1999.

He will be leaving at the end of the month to lead the University of California Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism’s investigative reporting program.

Barstow was part of the Pulitzer-winning expose of how Trump and his siblings had avoided paying taxes for many years. However, tension at the investigative team flared when Barstow expressed interest in collaborating with a top-secret source in order to ghostwrite a book.

Editors told Barstow to not pursue the opportunity, and the fact that Barstow repeatedly pursued the aforementioned source has alienated him from the rest of the team. Barstow has denied any wrongdoing.

Barstow, 56, graduated from Northwest University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1986.
