Dallas paper hires biz columnist from Fort Worth

Dallas Morning News business editor Dennis Fulton sent out the following staff announcement on Wednesday:

I’m excited to announce a strong addition to the Business staff.

Starting later this month, Mitchell Schnurman will join us as Business columnist. He’ll write two or three columns per week, and blog regularly on the BizBeat blog.

Mitch knows the territory. He’s been writing about business in North Texas since 1986, first as a reporter at the Dallas Times Herald, then at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Since 2001, he’s been the Star-Telegram’s lead business columnist.

Mitch is smart. His columns are well reported. He’s not afraid to take unpopular stands on issues if that is where the facts take him.

He’s been named, seven times, as one of the nation’s best business columnists by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.

Mitch will be a valuable team addition, he’ll bring us a steady stream of strong PICA content, and his column will greatly enhance our already strong Business section.

Please join me in welcoming him to the team. His first day will be Aug. 20.
