CyberScoop hires cybersecurity reporter

Greg Otto, managing editor of CyberScoop, send out the following announcement:

I would like to extend an official welcome to our newest reporter, Patrick Howell O’Neill. Patrick comes to us from The Daily Dot, where he served as one of the best cybersecurity reporters at the outlet.

For over three years, he covered a wide range of stories, from debunking an encrypted messaging app supposedly used by ISIS to anti-censorship tech inspired by Turkey’s oppressive regime to interviewing a notorious Dark Web drug kingpin.

He was also part of their Layer 8 section, recently starting a podcast that looked at how governments spy on dissidents. Patrick will be covering the growing relationship between the public and private sector when it comes to security, including how Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. are coming together to work on fixing the Internet’s growing security problems.

He will be based out of our San Francisco office as we look to grow our west coast presence. His first day is today. Please join me in giving him a warm welcome to the SNG family!

Regards, Greg Otto Managing Editor – CyberScoop
