Jeremy SmerdCrain’s New York Business publisher Jill Kaplan sent out the following announcement on Thursday afternoon:

I am very pleased to announce the well-deserved promotion of Jeremy Smerd from Executive Editor to Editor.

I remember shortly after Jeremy first joined us as a political reporter in 2010  I was in a cab reading his account of the State Democratic convention in Westchester.  What struck and stayed with me about that moment was how he was able to make me feel as though I was right there with him.

However, I was not the only one who clearly recognized his talents when Glenn tapped him to be his AME in April, 2012  and then shortly after that was promoted  again to Managing Editor in 2012.   Since earlier this year we have seen Jeremy’s curiosity, intelligence and creativity shine through the pages of CNYB, online, at our events and through the vision & incubation of our soon to be launched contributors network.

And that is just scratching the surface of what’s in store in the months ahead.   Jeremy has been a tremendous leader and thinker as we reshape our newsroom, redesign our print product and grow our audience in addition to being a key partner and collaborator with his business side colleagues.

Please join me in congratulating Jeremy on his promotion and wishing him continued success here at Crain’s New York Business.
