Crain’s Detroit names Root its executive editor

Kelley Root

Detroit journalist Kelley Root will move across downtown from The Detroit News to join Crain’s Detroit Business as executive editor on March 16.

A story on Crain’s Detroit states, “Root, 52, has held a series of senior editor roles since joining The News in 2004; she was named managing editor in 2019. In that role, she supervised local and business news coverage as well as investigative projects and features.

“Before that, she had been metro editor, a stint that included supervising the reporting team covering Detroit’s bankruptcy, which won multiple national and local journalism awards.

“‘This is a sign of our continued investment in quality journalism that has made us the No. 1 source of business news in the state of Michigan,’ Publisher KC Crain said. ‘Kelley will be part of our strategy to continue to grow our audience through all of our platforms, including digital, print and events.'”
