Crain’s Cleveland publisher pleads guilty to indecency

Crain’s Cleveland Business publisher John Campanelli pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree misdemeanor charge of public indecency.

Lydia Coutre of Crain’s Cleveland writes, “Stow Municipal Court Judge Kim Hoover accepted his plea. A sentencing hearing is to be scheduled after a pre-sentencing investigation in which Campanelli and his attorney, Errol A. Can, may present testimony and evidence.

“Campanelli last month was placed on indefinite administrative leave from Crain’s pending internal review of the events that resulted in the Hudson charge and an additional charge of public indecency for a separate complaint filed with Aurora police on Nov. 16. Elizabeth McIntyre, the editor of Crain’s since April 2014, was named to the additional role of acting publisher.

“‘I just want to say again I am incredibly sorry to the woman I frightened,’ Campanelli said after the hearing. ‘I am mortified by my behavior and take complete responsibility for my actions.’

“He said he continues to cooperate with the court and authorities.”
