Crain’s Chicago publisher Snyder stepping down at end of the year

David Snyder

David Snyder, the publisher of Crain’s Chicago Business and the former editor of the publication, sent out the following on Tuesday:

Dear Friends,

I’m writing to share the news that after more than 33 rewarding years working for Crain’s Chicago Business, I will be leaving Crain’s at the end of the year to embark on a new chapter of my career.

The past three decades have been as fulfilling as anyone could ask for—raising the stature and profile of Crain’s in the media landscape, creating our online news operation with a thriving paid subscription model and profitably diversifying our revenue mix.

Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to work for three generations of the Crain family—most recently KC Crain. As KC charts a new path for the company, we amicably agreed it was best to have a new leader to carry out his vision. I will be working with him closely on a seamless transition.

I’m excited about the future and now begin my search for a second career.

My focus will be on a leadership position at an organization that would benefit from my deep understanding of the evolving Chicago market and the ability to reinvent traditional business models.

I’ll also be pursuing corporate board opportunities, which I was constrained from exploring while working in business media.

I would welcome your thoughts and suggestions.
