Cox Media has named Daniel York as the company’s new president and chief executive officer.

In his new role, York will manage the company’s media platforms and oversee Cox Media’s long-term strategic priorities.

York took office on May 29.

In his new role, York succeeds Kim Guthrie, a 22-year veteran with the company who decided to move on from the organization.

York added that he is excited to lead a company that “has the most talented team and leadership in the industry. I have always admired and respected the unparalleled quality of CMG’s 90-plus TV and radio stations, digital and advertising platforms, and the company’s unwavering commitment to journalistic integrity.”

Previously, York was chief content officer and senior executive vice president at AT&T. He also served as the company’s president, content and advertising sales from 2004 to 2012.

In addition, York has also worked in leadership positions at DIRECTV, IN DEMAND and HBO.

Currently, York serves on the board of the T. Howard Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to increasing diversity in the media industry.
