Nathan Donato-Weinstein, the commercial real estate reporter at the Silicon Valley Business Journal, has left the paper for a job with the city of San Jose’s Office of Economic Development working in business development.
Donato-Weinstein writes, “It’s been an amazing ride. When I began this beat four years ago, I never dreamed I’d have a front-row seat for some of the most remarkable storylines in the Valley, many of which became international stories: Apple’s ‘spaceship’ campus in Cupertino. Google’s remarkable expansion and campus designs. Powerful debates over jobs, housing and what form our cities should take in the 21st century. These are the stories that will shape our region for the next half-century.
“This is a singular place to cover. You never know when you’ll wake up and find out that Larry Ellison just bought a hotel in downtown Palo Alto; or that a pharmaceutical billionaire is the new owner of a local ghost town; or that the new plans for Vallco Shopping Mall include 30 acres of rooftop parks.
“Reader, I loved every minute of it.
“But I’ve been just as jazzed to cover the countless stories that weren’t so sensational – the day-in, day-out dealmaking, development updates and who’s-doing-what-and-where type of coverage, as well chronicling the issues and people and places that are shaping our communities. I hope some of this information has been useful to you in your business, or simply provided fodder for your office water-cooler conversation.”
