Nearly 60 college students who are interested in careers as business reporters and editors will be meeting in New York for the next 48 hours at the second annual Collegiate Business Journalism Conference.
The students come from 15 different universities, including Boston University, Columbia University, CUNY, the University of Baltimore, the University of Pennsylvania, Ohio University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central University, Marquette University, the University of Missouri, Missouri State University, the University of Nebraska and Humboldt State University.
The training sessions include opportunities to learn about writing stories about private companies and SEC filings, and how to do business reporting for broadcast.
The conference is organized by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is held at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. Other sponsors include the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, Bloomberg LP and Progress Energy.
Each attendee will also receive a free copy of “The Financial Writer’s Stylebook: 1,100 Business Terms Defined and Rated.”
