Caren Bohan, a former White House correspondent for Reuters who has been at the news organization for more than 20 years, has been named the interim editor overseeing domestic policy coverage in its Washington bureau.
She replaces Fred Barbash, an editor who is leaving Reuters for the Washington Post. Wednesday is his last day.
In an email to the staff, bureau chief Marilyn Thompson wrote:
Hi all. Today is Fred’s last day, and some of us are still very upset about it. But on the bright side, Caren Bohan has agreed to step in as acting EIC until a permanent editor is chosen. Thank you Caren!
Bohan covered the White House from 2003 to 2012. In 2008, she was a lead correspondent covering President Barack Obama’s campaign. She has covered international summits, the federal budget, U.S. policy on Iraq and Afghanistan, and has reported extensively on the U.S. economy. Bohan is a past president of the White House Correspondents Association.
Bohan has also worked for the National Journal for nine months before returning to Reuters in April 2013 as a domestic policy correspondent. She has degrees from McGill University and Cal-Berkeley.
