CNNMoney promotes McGowan to senior editor

CNNMoney.com executive editor Lex Haris sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

Please join us in congratulating Karen McGowan on her promotion to senior editor.

Karen arrived at CNNMoney in 2006 as a news producer, and we quickly learned her versatility.

First, we figured out that she was a personal finance geek, with a deep knowledge of credit scores, retirement planning and consumer issues. So she developed that coverage, heading up a new team, and conceiving of calculators and ambitious editorial features.

(It was also during this time that Karen led our Beer Friday tradition, which we really need to get back on track with!)

Then Karen did a sharp pivot, raising her hand to be CNNMoney’s Economy editor. In that role, she helped define our coverage, with creative takes on jobs and the Fed.

Now, after overseeing several of our specials, she’s back to PF. We’re looking forward to what comes next.

Congrats Karen!
