CNNMoney hires Macfarlane from WSJ

Mark Thompson, international managing editor of CNNMoney, sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

I am delighted to announce an addition to CNNMoney’s international team.

Alec Macfarlane will be joining Hong Kong as a reporter, starting on Thursday.

Alec comes to us from the Wall Street Journal & Dow Jones in Hong Kong, where for the last two years he’s been writing breaking news and features on business, finance and technology across Asia.

Previous experience includes covering Europe’s private equity industry for Dow Jones and a specialist publication out of London, and copyediting for The Sunday Times.

Alec is an English graduate, with a diploma in newspaper journalism and a Japanese language course from London’s School of Oriental and African Studies under his belt.

He also knows his way around corporate earnings, having taken an introduction to financial accounting from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton school.

Alec will report to CNNMoney Asia Editor Jethro Mullen.

His appointment will allow us to go deeper with our reporting on Asia, and in particular our coverage of Chinese markets and investment flows.

Please join me in welcoming Alec to CNN.
