CNNMoney hires Hong Kong reporter from Bloomberg

CNNMoney managing editor Lex Haris sent out the following staff announcement on Monday:

Our global team has hired Employee No. 4. Sophia Yan has accepted a position as a reporter in the Hong Kong bureau, and will report to Charles Riley.

Under Mark Thompson’s leadership, we have made big strides in our global coverage: We’ve been on top of shifting signals on China’s economy, the huge swings in Japan’s stock market, and the barrage of concerns in Europe. That team has also given our domestic coverage a huge boost, setting us up nicely overnight and in the morning.

Sophia already knows the beat – most recently, she was an Asia Equity Reporter for Bloomberg based in Hong Kong. She’s fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese. We’re also told that she’s a pretty amazing pianist. She starts July 22.
