CNN makes two new hires on the climate beat

CNN has hired John Keefe as a senior data and visuals editor for climate. Before that, he was a graphics/multimedia editor at The New York Times.

He was also at Quartz for more than 3 years, joining as a bot developer and app product manager. He then served as a technical architect – bots and machine learning, and later as an investigations editor.

He has also worked at WNYC Radio for more than 15 years, serving in various roles, including executive producer, program development; executive producer – “On The Media”; senior executive producer for news, and senior editor, data news.

Keefe has also taught at Craig Newark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, The New School and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

He has also led a radio-web-television production company with clients including WNYC Radio, Encyclopedia Britannica Online, PBS Online, WebLab, Discovery Channel Online, ABC/Discovery News, A&E Television Network, the History Channel, National Public Radio, and Minnesota Public Radio.

He was also a science editor at Discovery Channel Online.

Keefe holds a degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Angela Fritz joins the network in D.C. as a senior climate editor. She joins from The Washington Post where she recently held the post of deputy editor, general assignment news desk.

She was with The Post for 7 years and has also served as a deputy health and science editor and as a deputy weather editor. She was also a product manager at Weather Underground and has served as a producer, CNN Weather.

Fritz was also a lead forecaster at Climate Forecast Applications Network and a graduate research assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Fritz is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology.
