CNN hires Politico reporter to cover politics and finance intersection

Rachel Smolkin, executive editor of CNN Digital Politics, and Lex Haris, executive editor of CNNMoney, sent out the following staff hire announcement on Wednesday:

We are very excited to welcome a new addition to our team: MJ Lee, who will be based in New York and will cover the intersection of politics and financial services.

It’s a huge story line for CNNPolitics and CNNMoney, and MJ’s aggressive reporting will be an important asset for both newsrooms as we head into an exciting presidential campaign season.

MJ currently covers financial services for POLITICO and also has served on the breaking news team there.

We’ll make sure MJ is also a frequent visitor to DC and has an opportunity to meet all of you. Her first day is Jan. 21.
