CNN Digital’s Kalita to join Philly Inquirer board of directors

S. Mitra Kalita, senior vice president of CNN Digital, will be joining the Philadelphia Inquirer’s board on Nov. 15.

Kalita replaces Susan Goldberg, the top editor of National Geographic, who stepped down from the board.

In her current capacity, Kalita oversees national news, opinion and programming for CNN Digital. She has been with the company for more than 4 years now, joining as vice president. However, she will be leaving after the November election.

“It is a great privilege to join The Inquirer board and help advance its growth through platforms and products that serve many communities,” Kalita said.

Previously, Kalita served as managing editor, directing editorial strategy for the Los Angeles Times. She was also an executive editor-at-large at Quartz and has held the post of ideas editor at Quartz, Atlantic Media Company.

She has also worked at the Wall Street Journal as deputy global economics editor and then as senior special writer. She was also senior deputy editor, Greater New York, at Dow Jones Newswires/the Wall Street Journal.

Kalita was a founding editor of Mint, a business newspaper, and a publication of the Hindustan Times and the Wall Street Journal.

Additionally, she has also worked at the Washington Post, Newsday and the Associated Press.

Kalita has penned two books related to migration and globalization, and speaks seven languages.

Kalita is a B.A. in History/journalism from Rutgers University and a M.S. in journalism from Columbia University – Graduate School of Journalism.
