CNBC’s Kudlow considering Senate run

CNBC commentator Larry Kudlow is considering running for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut as a Republican, writes Daniela Altimari of The Hartford Courant.

Altimari writes, “Kudlow, a former official in Ronald Reagan’s budget office, writes a nationally syndicated column in addition to working as a senior contributor for CNBC.

“He would bring a measure of star power to the race, said former state GOP Chairman Chris Healy. ‘He knows how to perform in front of a camera,’ Healy said. ‘He’s a godsend candidate for us on a couple of levels and he gives us a tremendous opportunity to send Dick Blumenthal back to reality.’

“Blumenthal remains one of the state’s most popular politicians. But some Republicans believe he may be vulnerable. ‘As the world’s burning and there’s turmoil all across the Middle East, Sen. Blumenthal’s having a press conference on salmon,’ Romano said. ‘It’s laughable.’

“Romano was referring to a press conference Blumenthal held last month to criticize the Food and Drug Administration decision that allows genetically engineered salmon.”
