CNBC wins two Murrow Awards

Business news network CNBC won two 2012 National Edward R. Murrow Award winners, which were announced Tuesday by The Radio Television Digital News Association.

The awards honor excellence in electronic journalism. Winners will receive their awards at a dinner in October.

CNBC won the “Video News Documentary” category for its one-hour documentary “Billions Behind Bars: Inside America’s Prison Industry.”

And CNBC.com was honored as best network TV website.

RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the electronic news profession.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
