CNBC senior vice president and editor of business news Nik Deogun sent out the following staff announcement on Tuesday:
As part of CNBC’s continued commitment to covering the technology sector, I’m pleased to announce a series of moves to bolster our efforts on both coasts.
Mark Berniker is joining CNBC as Silicon Valley/San Francisco Bureau Chief to spearhead our coverage of technology and digital media in Northern California.
Mark is a 25-year veteran of the business, most recently serving as Executive Producer of “The War Room with Jennifer Granholm” on Current TV. Prior to joining Current TV, Mark spent more than seven years at Bloomberg Television where he helped launch “Bloomberg West” and several other programs. He spent more than five years at CNNfn and launched its technology news hour: “Digital Jam.” Additionally, Mark was Moscow Bureau Chief for Knight-Ridder Financial News during the final two years of the Soviet Union.
Mark will start Sept. 9 and report to Lacy O’Toole, as will Paul McNamara, who will continue as California Bureau Chief, based in Los Angeles.
Josh Lipton, who has impressed all of us in his brief time here with his tenacity as an on-air markets reporter, will move next month to the Bay Area to be a technology correspondent. For Josh, this is a homecoming of sorts as he was born and raised in the Valley and still has family there.
Jon Fortt, who has done a superb job as our technology correspondent for the past three years, will move to the East Coast in the coming months to be an on-air editor. Jon will bring his deep technology expertise to our programming and will be a font of knowledge on the stories to watch.
Please join me in congratulating everyone on their new roles and welcoming Mark to CNBC. With Josh and the indefatigable and well-sourced Julia Boorstin on the West Coast and Jon on the East Coast, our technology coverage is sure to make and break news.
As they say in the Valley, this won’t be our last investment round in this space. So stay tuned.
