CNBC names California bureau chief

The following announcement was sent out Monday afternoon by CNBC managing editor Nik Deogun:

I’m delighted to announce that Paul McNamara has been named CNBC’s new California Bureau Chief. In this role, Paul will manage CNBC’s Los Angeles and San Jose bureaus, including breaking news and enterprise stories. In addition, he will oversee the day-to-day technical operations and help coordinate our events coverage on the West Coast.

Home to both high-tech and Hollywood, California is a business and investing story like no other. As of 2010, California was tied with Texas for the largest number of Fortune 500 companies headquartered there (57 for those who are counting). And as we know from our reporting on the state’s fiscal problems, the Golden State, were it a stand-alone country, would be one of the biggest economies in the world. Our California crew also covers broader business stories on the West Coast, from gambling to agriculture to retail.

Paul has a keen eye for detail and comes to us with a wealth of production and editorial experience. He was most recently Executive and Supervising Producer at the TV Guide Network, where he launched and oversaw production of “Hollywood 411,” a daily one-hour entertainment news program.  Prior to that, he was line producer and news writer at Fox News. In a previous incarnation, Paul was an aspiring advertising executive, working on Madison Avenue on various marketing campaigns. Paul received his master’s degree in journalism from Boston University and his bachelor’s degree from Boston College.

Paul will be based in Los Angeles but will have soon memorized the flight schedules to San Jose. Please join me in congratulating Paul on his new assignment and welcoming him to CNBC.
