CNBC Digital hires Yarow as executive editor

CNBC chairman Mark Hoffman sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

CNBC Digital has had an extraordinary start to the year in both user and revenue growth. On the content side, January was a record breaker with more than 27 million unique visitors and more than 62 million video starts. On the heels of this momentum and with the upcoming launch of “CNBC Make It,” our primetime inspired “all things money” initiative, I am pleased to announce the appointment of a new editorial leader to oversee our talented team.

Jay Yarow has been named Senior Vice President and Executive Editor for CNBC Digital, reporting to me. Jay will be responsible for setting the editorial direction for all of CNBC Digital’s products and services. He will also work closely with Nik Deogun, Senior Vice President and Editor in Chief of CNBC Business News, to further strengthen our integrated newsroom and deepen our cross-platform culture.

Jay, a thoughtful, energetic and innovative business news journalist and leader, joins us from Business Insider. There, he was Executive Editor responsible for setting the editorial strategy and managing all content and coverage for BI, one of the top digital business news brands. He was a key player in the site’s ascent and helped focus the organization on its distinctive brand of real-time digital journalism.

Jay began his career as an intern at Silicon Alley Insider, which later became BI. Over the last decade, Jay was promoted through the ranks reaching the top of the editorial ladder a year ago. Jay has a Master’s degree in Journalism from New York University and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Delaware. He grew up, and currently resides, in New Jersey. Jay will join us on March 28th.

With Jay’s appointment, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Randy Culbertson for his leadership during this period of transition. His commercial focus and collaborative nature have served the business well. Randy will continue to have an important voice in the ongoing evolution of CNBC Digital.

I’m also announcing today that Jonathan Meyers will be promoted to Senior Vice President, Strategy and Operations for CNBC Digital. Reporting to Randy and working closely with Jay, Jonathan will lead the operational and commercial elements of the digital business, including overall revenue management, identifying and expanding strategic partnerships and sourcing new monetization opportunities for the business.

With Jay at the helm of our dynamic digital editorial group and working closely with Nik, Jonathan and Deep Bagchee, Senior Vice President of Product and Technology, CNBC Digital is well-positioned for continued success.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
