CNBC hires Sherman, D’Onfro for tech team

Jay Yarow, senior vice president and executive editor of CNBC Digital, sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

Very exciting news, team.

We are adding two fantastic reporters to our already amazing technology team — Alex Sherman and Jillian D’Onfro.

Alex is a killer reporter from Bloomberg, who consistently breaks big news. Jillian is also a great reporter, who broke news, and delivered great stories. Equally noteworthy: She was a delightful presence in the newsroom. We are thrilled to have them on our team.

As you know, our Tech section is a top performer, consistently breaking traffic records. And as we continue to invest and bolster our editorial efforts, I am excited to add them to our all-star Tech team, both reporting to Matt Rosoff. (This is not all that different from when the Golden State Warriors were able to land Kevin Durant.)

Here’s more on both of them:

Alex Sherman will join us in December as a reporter, continuing coverage of M&A with a focus on technology and the Silicon Valley venture capital world. He will be based in Englewood Cliffs. Alex comes to CNBC Digital from Bloomberg News where he has worked since 2008. He first joined Bloomberg TV as a writer and producer before working for the newsroom in 2010 to cover media and telecommunications. After breaking Charter Communications’ hostile bid for Time Warner Cable, he transitioned to the mergers and acquisitions beat, where he helped break AT&T’s deal for Time Warner and Verizon’s purchase of AOL and Yahoo. He was a regular on Bloomberg TV and hosted a weekly podcast, Deal of the Week. Alex is a graduate of Harvard University and received his master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism at Northwestern and an MBA from New York University.

Jillian D’Onfro will join our San Francisco team later this month as a reporter, focusing on Alphabet/Google and interesting human features. Before taking a year to backpack through Asia, Jillian spent three years at Business Insider as Senior Technology Reporter, covering the tech industry with a concentration on Google, Facebook and startups. While there, she broke stories on troubles at Alphabet’s Nest subsidiary, LinkedIn’s B2B expansion plans and Facebook’s widespread psychological experiment on its users, while also writing quirky features on people like the man who built a mini-“pod” inside a San Francisco apartment to save housing costs. Jillian is a graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and School of Information Studies.

Please join me in welcoming them to CNBC!
