Scott Waller, the business editor of the Jackson Clarion-Ledger in Mississippi, is leaving the paper after four years as biz editor to become senior vice president of public affairs for the Mississippi Economic Council, he wrote in the Sunday newspaper.
Waller writes, “From my first day on the job until now, the business world has been jumping.
“Bernie Ebbers resigned as chief executive officer of WorldCom during that first week in April 2002, and one of the biggest bank mergers to impact our state was announced Thursday.
“In between, there were so many other things: The successful launch of the $1.4 billion Nissan plant, the beef plant debacle that bilked taxpayers of $55 million, multimillion-dollar retail developments in our area and the WorldCom saga still hasn’t ended.
“In August, Hurricane Katrina changed all of our lives.
“Covering business in Mississippi is always fascinating.”
