Chopra named editor of Financial News

Shruti Tripathi Chopra

Francesco Guerrera, head of international, Barron’s Group and publisher, Financial News, sent out the following announcement:

I am delighted to announce that Shruti Tripathi Chopra has been appointed Editor of Financial News.

Shruti is a tremendous journalist and a sharp editor who inspires other journalists with her work ethic and news-breaking abilities. She is the ideal person to lead FN’s award-winning newsroom to new heights.

Almar Latour, Publisher for Barron’s Group and EVP of Dow Jones, said: “Shruti is a great journalist, a skilled editor and a dynamic leader. She is the ideal person to lead FN to even greater successes in the next few years.”

Shruti joined FN as deputy editor in January 2019.

In her 13 months at the publication, Shruti has led the newsroom and  written many front-page stories including Invesco dumping a stake in Debenhams, Lloyd’s of London staff being  told to behave at Christmas parties and a top Barclays shareholder slamming the bank’s culture problem.

Her scoop on the rise of bullying and harassment complaints at the Financial Conduct Authority led to the Treasury Committee questioning Andrew Bailey, the City watchdog’s outgoing chief executive, at an evidence session earlier this month.

She has interviewed the likes of private equity veteran Guy Hands, advertising tycoon Sir Martin Sorrell and Lloyd’s of London boss John Neal among others.

Before joining Financial News. Shruti was City A.M.’s news editor. She  joined City A.M. as deputy night editor in July 2016 and was promoted to deputy news editor in 2017, before becoming news editor later that year. She started her career as an intern at the online publication LondonLovesBusiness.com in 2011 and became editor in 2015.

She holds a master’s degree in international journalism from Cardiff University.
