CNN’s chief business correspondent, Ali  Velshi, is leaving the network, reports Jerry Barmash of the New York Daily News.

Barmash writes, “His last day is Friday, the Daily News has  learned.

“CNN staffers were told about his departure Wednesday morning during a  conference call.

“No further details were available.

“‘Ali’s a much-loved person at CNN,’ an insider said. ‘A lot of people will be  sad to see him go.’

“Velshi, known for his vested attire, joined the cable network in 2001, first  with its now-defunct CNNfn. Velshi anchored several shows including ‘Insights’ and ‘Street Sweep,’ and he co-hosted ‘The Money Gang’ with NY1’s Pat Kiernan.  CNNfn was canceled in 2004.”
