Chicago suburb paper names biz editor

Chris Cashman, former editor of the Lake County News-Sun in Gurnee, has been named the Northwest Herald’s new business editor, effective April 2.

A story on the suburban Chicago paper’s website states, “Cashman, who brings more than 20 years of journalism experience in Chicago’s north and northwest suburbs to the job, has been writing news, business and feature stories for the Northwest Herald since last summer as a correspondent and a member of the staff.

“‘We’re very pleased to have a candidate with Chris’ experience and talent to lead our Business team at a transitional time in the economy,’ Northwest Herald Senior Editor Dan McCaleb said. ‘Among his first tasks will be to expand our daily business coverage to better reflect McHenry County’s diverse business community. We’ll let our readers know more about that expanded coverage in the coming weeks.’

“Cashman was managing editor and then editor of the daily Lake County newspaper from 2000 to 2011, managing a newsroom staff of 16 and winning a number of statewide journalism awards. He joins Business Journal Editor Kurt Begalka and reporter Shawn Shinneman on the Northwest Herald’s business reporting team.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
