The board of WBEZ has approved the acquisition of the Chicago Sun-Times, with the deal expected to close by Jan. 31.
The Chicago Sun-Times will operate as a subsidiary of Chicago Public Media, parent company of WBEZ. The newspaper will continue to operate separately with its own editors and editorial independence.
Also, WBEZ and the Sun-Times will each launch a search for an executive editor to lead the respective newsrooms.
Nykia Wright will continue as CEO of the Sun-Times, and will report to Matt Moog, CEO of Chicago Public Media.
