August 22, 2008

Steve Wisnefski has been named deputy managing editor for North American equities, overseeing the breaking news operations, at Dow Jones Newswires, according to an internal e-mail from Linda Fung, the managing editor of equities.

Fung writes, “Steve will oversee the rewrite and monitor desks; NewsPlus; equities markets reporters, NYC courthouse and North American Equities Market Talk News Editors. Steve replaces Andrew Dowell, who has joined the Dow Jones central news desk. He will work alongside Deputy Managing Editor Mike Reid as part of my management team. Steve is expected to join us in late October and will report to me.

“Steve returns to Harborside from Chicago, where he has served as bureau chief since June 2005. In that role, he has coordinated Newswires’ U.S. coverage of the automotive industry as well as airlines, railroads, package delivery companies, agribusiness, conglomerates and exchanges. He supervises reporters in Chicago, Detroit and Austin.

“Before moving to Chicago, Steve worked in Harborside as assistant managing editor for Latin America and emerging markets, a position he took in 2001 after a year as a special writer in the emerging markets group. He came to Harborside in 2000, after working for three years as a reporter, and then bureau chief, in Sao Paulo Brazil.

“He has bachelor’s degrees in sociology and urban studies from Northwestern University, and a master’s degree in urban studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.”
