Charleston daily hires business reporter

Thad Moore has been hired as a business reporter for the Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier.

He will be covering technology and unemployment.

Moore interned on the Washington Post business desk this past summer, covering general assignments in business, including industry trends, earnings announcements and breaking news. He also reported on Volkwagen’s emissions-cheating scandal, allegations of corruption at United, airline-industry collusion and stock market turmoil.

Moore became famous on the Internet last summer when the New York Stock Exchange halted trading.

He also interned for the Denver Post’s business section and for the metro desk of The Virginian-Pilot.

Moore is a 2015 graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he was editor in chief of the Daily Gamecock.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
