Changes in Dow Jones Newswires Latin America coverage

Charles Roth, assistant managing editor at Dow Jones Newswires, announced Friday morning changes to its Latin America team.

In a memo, Roth wrote, “I’m pleased to announce four changes in our Latin America staffing that promise to enhance our coverage of the region.

Stephan Kueffner, who has overseen our Chile coverage for the last five years, earlier this month moved to Caracas to cover Venezuelan politics and economics. He brings considerable experience to his new position, having spent more than three years with Dow Jones Newswires in Frankfurt, and prior to that, having freelanced in Mexico and Ecuador, where he has family

“After a strong, four-year stint covering energy in Venezuela, Peter Millard will move at the end of this month to Mexico City, where he will continue to cover primarily energy in a country that is a top supplier to the U.S. and is poised to open up it’s oil and gas sector. Prior to joining Dow Jones in 2003, Peter was Bridge News’ Venezuela bureau chief.

Raul Gallegos is taking over the Venezuela energy beat after three years covering Venezuela’s turbulent markets and politics. Raul joined Dow Jones following three years at Institutional Investor, and before that had worked as a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times in its Orange Country bureau and as a business and politics reporter for El Salvador’s leading newspaper, El Diario de Hoy.

“Santiago-based correspondent Carolina Pica, a former Bridge News bureau chief in Chile who has done a terrific job covering the key mining sector, is now overseeing our Chile coverage.

“Peter will report to Mexico bureau chief Anthony Harrup, while Stephan, Raul and Carolina will report to me.

“Please join me in wishing Stephan, Peter, Raul and Carolina success in their new positions.”
