Barbara Chai is returning to The Wall Street Journal as deputy editor of culture, training and outreach.
“The work is deeply meaningful and important at this inflection point in our culture and in journalism. I’m thrilled to rejoin the newsroom family and to celebrate our people every day,” she wrote on LinkedIn.
She has been global head of content strategy and thought leadership for Publicis Sapient, the digital consulting arm of Publicis Groupe, based in New York. She left The Journal in July 2019.
Chai had previously overseen international news in Brussels, and she also launched Pro vertical editions and managed the Speakeasy site.
In addition, she edited Sue Shellenbarger‘s “From Campus to Career” e-book, conducted interviews at the Journal’s Future of Everything Festival, was a juror at the SXSW Film Festival, wrote Weekend Confidential profiles on Daniel Radcliffe and Armie Hammer, and volunteered to participate as a journalism mentor to a Morgan State University student.
