CBS and CNBC have most business Emmy nominations

CBS News and CNBC received the most nominations for the sixth annual Emmy Awards for business and financial reporting.

CBS News had 12 nominations, while CNBC received six. ABC and PBS had four, while Bloomberg had three nominations.

The awards will be presented on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Rainbow Room in New York City.

In addition, this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Business and Financial Reporting will be presented to David Schlesinger, editor-in-chief of Reuters News at Thomson Reuters.

“More than any other news organization, Reuters understands that that there is no sharp dividing line between business reporting, political reporting, and other kinds of news,” said Peter Price, President/CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, in a statement. “As editor-in-chief, David Schlesinger has preserved this venerable organization’s core journalistic values while enthusiastically embracing the possibilities and challenges of the digital age, and we are proud to honor him for this achievement.”

The Emmy Awards for Business & Financial Reporting recognize outstanding achievement in business & financial reporting telecast or webcast from July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008. The Emmy Awards for Promotional Announcements recognize outstanding promotional announcements in News & Documentary programming aired in 2007.

“Recent events have shown just how important good economic journalism is to Wall Street and Main Street alike,” said Bill Small, chairman of the News & Documentary Emmy Awards, in a statement. “Many of this year’s submissions examined the mortgage meltdown that precipitated the current global economic crisis. This year’s nominees represent the best of a very strong group of entries, and we are pleased to pay tribute to them. In addition, we are pleased to be honoring an important but often overlooked area of our craft by presenting two Emmys for outstanding promotional announcements.”
