Sandy Cannold, who since April 2013 has been executive producer and senior business editor at ABC News, is returning to CNBC.

Cannold will be executive producer of “Squawk Box,” effective Monday, Aug. 4, a CNBC spokeswoman confirmed to Talking Biz News. Cannold will report to Matt Quayle, senior executive producer of “Squawk Box.”

At ABC, he oversaw its team of business and economics specialists, including “Good Morning America” weekend anchor Bianna Golodryga, Linzie Janis, Zunaira Zaki and chief business and economics correspondent Rebecca Jarvis.

Cannold left CNBC in September 2012 to become executive producer of “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” He had previously been executive producer of CNBC’s “Street Signs.”

He also produced CNBC’s Republican presidential debate in 2011.

Cannold was co-creator of the widely popular “Squawk on the Street,” the first program ever to broadcast from the New York Stock Exchange, during market hours, giving it immediacy and urgency.

He also was executive producer of a number of CNBC documentaries including: “Beyond the Barrel,” “Liquid Assets,” “Behind the Counter” and “Price of Admission.” He also was in charge of countless hours of live event programming.
