Dayan Candappa
The International Business Times announced Monday that Dayan Candappa has been named the new global editor in chief.
Candappa will be based out of IBT Media’s New York City headquarters and will report directly to co-founder and chief content officer Johnathan Davis.
He replaces Peter Goodman, who resigned earlier this year and is now at the New York Times.
“Dayan is the key to this next step and brings a world of newsroom experience to our talented team,” said Davis in a statement. “While great reporting is still core to our mission, we believe Dayan will help us drive even greater modernization of the user experience, more data-driven reporting and will be putting video and social media at the forefront of our strategy.”
Candappa joins International Business Times from Thomson Reuters where he has spent the past 16 years in a range of roles including regional editor for both Asia and Americas, deputy managing editor, global markets editor, Asia treasury editor and chief financial correspondent, Gulf.
He has built award-winning news teams around the world whose work was recognized with a dozen journalism prizes, including Reuters first ever Pulitzer Prize for print. Candappa managed teams as large as 800 journalists, covered and directed major stories on six continents and managed safety and logistics in war zones and disaster areas during assignments in New York, London, Singapore, Dubai and Sri Lanka.
“IBT Media is continuing with its goal of building the news business of the future, one that is always looking for the most effective, innovative way to report the news and tell great stories, all while growing readership for its sites,” said Candappa in a statement. “I’m truly excited at the opportunity to join a team that shares this remarkable ambition and lead International Business Times into its next chapter.”
