BuzzFeed names Gara its new business editor

Tom Gara, who was hired from The Wall Street Journal earlier this year to be BuzzFeed’s assistant business editor, has been promoted to business editor.

He replaces Peter Lauria, who has left the news site.

Editor in chief Ben Smith writes:

Peter Lauria, who put together a hell of a team and brought a great reporting metabolism to BuzzFeed Business, has moved on, and I wish him all the best.

Tom Gara has been promoted to Business Editor, and I’m excited for him to build on and expand the talented group he’s been working with since the fall.

Gara has been editor of the Journal’s Corporate Intelligence blog for the past two years. He has also worked at The Financial Times, Egypt Today and The National.

Lauria had previously worked at Reuters, The Daily Beast, The Post and The Deal.
