BuzzFeed biz editor Gara to run new opinion section

Tom Gara

Tom Gara, the business editor of BuzzFeed since December 2014, has been tapped to run the website’s new opinion section.

He will start his new position on July 10.

Gara joined BuzzFeed in September 2014. He had been editor of the Journal’s Corporate Intelligence blog for the previous two years. He has also worked at The Financial Times as Gulf news editor in Dubai, Egypt Today and The National.

As for the new opinion section, BuzzFeed editor in chief Ben Smith wrote, “Tom will seek out and publish authoritative voices from around the world, and occasionally from inside the newsroom. Our goal is to address the rapidly changing world and to contextualize it in ways to help our readers make sense of what the hell is happening.”
