Businessweek hires Drummond from The Verge

Katie DrummondKatie DrummondKatie Drummond, who had been assistant managing editor at The Verge, has been hired as a deputy editor at Bloomberg Businessweek.

She started her new job this week.

Drummond had been the AME for the tech news site for seven months. Before that, she was the science editor at The Verge, launching Verge Science, the first new section at The Verge since the publication’s inception in 2011.

She was also a founding staff member of News Corp.’s The Daily, the first-ever daily news publication for iPads and other mobile devices. And she covered military research on Wired‘s defense blog, Danger Room, and previously worked at AOL News, where she reported on science and health news.

Drummond has also done freelance work for New Republic, New York Magazine, Popular Science, The Fix, Forbes, Global Post, Marie Claire and several other national outlets.

Earlier this year, Josh Topolsky, the co-founder of the The Verge, joined Bloomberg as the editor of a series of new online ventures it is launching as part of a revamped journalism strategy. Another former staffer at The Daily, Kyle Stock, is an associate editor at Bloomberg Businessweek.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
