BusinessWeek forecasts the weather

For those who are old enough to remember, or have gone back and looked, the cover of BusinessWeek magazine used to have a thermometer that gauged the country’s economy.

The thermometer was discontinued back in the 1960s, but the weekly glossy is getting back into forecasting via a deal with The Weather Channel where it will provide a show called the BusinessWeek Barometer.

Starting Jan. 23, BusinessWeek will provide news segments to air several times each week during the Weather Channel’s early morning program “First Outlook.” The segments will be taped at the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York and will be hosted by BusinessWeek Weekend’s co-anchor Jill Bennett.

“Weather affects not just business travel, but operations, efficiency, and productivity,” said William P. Kupper Jr., president, BusinessWeek Group, in a release. “We are very pleased to be partnering with The Weather Channel to provide viewers with our unique insights on how weather may affect their business.”

The BusinessWeek Business Barometer will be added to weather.com’s video content list as a featured video. In addition, weather.com will link to businessweek.com as a source for business news.
