Terry Hillman, the new publisher of the Sacramento Business Journal, sees the weekly business newspaper as a catalyst for the business community to help itself.
Melanie Turner of the Business Journal writes, “Hillman said he expects the fast-changing newspaper industry will continue to evolve. But “if we stay true to our mission and understand who our audience is and stay loyal to that audience, then we’re going to be OK,” he said.
“One of the best things about ACBJ, he said, is that each of the 40 business weeklies operates like a nimble small business, while the parent company works on larger initiatives, such as figuring out the best ways to drive readers to the web.
“Under his leadership, the Kansas City paper’s advertising department was ranked No. 2 out of 40 markets last year.
“Hillman said he set his sights on becoming a publisher five years ago, and called Kansas City Business Journal publisher Joyce Hayhow his mentor.”
